The Drop is number 17 in the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly. Fans of the popular Harry Bosch character have been waiting for this book and it is finally here. This book is getting amazing reviews, it seems as everyone who reads it, loves it. The title (The Drop) has a lot of meaning in this series because it stands for the Deferred Retirement Option Program. Harry is at retirement age, and this fact is on his mind throughout the book. At the moment he still works for the unsolved cases unit, and is more determined then ever to get cases. Lucky for him there are two in one day.
A 29 year old rapist is convicted, but strangely his DNA has shown up in a case from 1989. Was he involved in a rape at the age of 8 or has something gone wrong in the lab that could compromise all their cases in court.
Harry's old nemesis Irvin Irving is back in an important case deep into politics. He wants Harry to drop everything and investigate his son's death. Was Irving's son, the well-connected lobbyist, suicidal or was he pushed from a window?
Then Lord John Grey finds documents that exposes a case against a British officer. His investigation leads him to Ireland and Jamie. He finds a puzzling message left in an old tongue called Erse, that is favoured by Scottish Highlanders. Lord John thinks Jamie can translate it, and they become unwanted companies on a journey in Ireland involving epic history and deceit.
